PrimeRx™ Receives Certification for SCRIPT Standard 2017071

Syosset, New York –  Micro Merchant Systems PrimeRx™ pharmacy technology operating system has been certified to implement the new SCRIPT Standard 2017071.  This certification, which was issued by Surescripts, assures the Prime Rx™ operating system’s readiness to seamlessly accept and process prescriptions transmitted via the new SCRIPT Standard, when it becomes mandatory on January 1, 2020.

The new standard was developed by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP), and includes several enhancements to the existing SCRIPT Standard 10.6.  The new SCRIPT Standard 2017071 has been accepted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and beginning January 1, 2020, will be mandated for any Medicare-reimbursable prescriptions.

“SCRIPT Standard 2017017 marks a big step forward in pharmacy management, and Micro Merchant Systems is pleased that our system users will be among the first to benefit,” said Akbar Merchant, Micro Merchant Systems president and owner. “We actively participated in development of the SCRIPT Standard, and are confident it will significantly improve the e-prescription process.”

Micro Merchant Systems PrimeRx™ interfaces with Surescripts Network Alliance™ to ensure seamless transmission of electronic prescriptions and timely, accurate processing of patient information.  SCRIPT Standard 2017017 will enable additional capabilities, some of which include:

“The new SCRIPT Standard will improve the transmission process between prescribers and pharmacies, while raising the bar in terms of prescription accuracy and patient safety,” Micro Merchant Systems Chief Executive Officer Ketan Mehta noted.  “That’s a significant step forward, and we are pleased to offer this capacity through our industry-leading PrimeRx™ platform.”

  • Electronic transmission of compound information, including ingredients and quantities.
  • Capacity to include allergy information.
  • Support for transmitting laboratory testing dates and values.
  • Enhancements to digital signatures, as required for the electronic prescribing of controlled substances.
  • Directions for use that allow 1,000 characters and are included in the Sig element of SigText.  This increased capacity will allow prescribers to list additional instructions on the script, which will improve prescription clarity.
  • Support for grouping of multiple prescriptions, allowing for items such as multiple dispensing and administration locations (i.e. school and home).
  • Capacity to list manufacturer’s name, lot number and product expiration field.
  • Ability to include more data elements as part of a patient’s medication history.
